St Francis de Sales:

A Testimony by Chantal

The testimony of which a new edition and translation are here offered is considered to be the most faithful contemporary account of the personality of St Francis de Sales. In its outward form it is a legal document and consists of answers given under oath to a series of fifty-five agreed questions put forward at the first canonization inquiry in 1627 into the sanctity and virtues of the Bishop of Geneva who had died five years previously.
